| The No Knife Bagel Experience: Tearaway BagelI decided to delve into a food product to redesign, and why not the common bagel? Some issues: Many bagels are not pre-cut, Cutting devices are inadequate, There's a high risk of bagel cutting injuries, One must use knife to spread cream cheese, Waste of utensils “Bagel-related accidents are the great underreported injury of our times.” After going to some bagel factories in the SF Bay area, I learned about the processes- and instead of inventing a new cutting method, I wanted to reinvent the bagel. I realized that if you slice the dough (usually put in a freezer) before baking, a fracture line forms which makes it easy to tear- So it works much like an English muffin!
